Free vocal lessons “barbershop-style” are being offered through the local chapter of Sweet Adelines, The Cape Shore Chorus.
In an effort to increase an awareness of barbershop harmony and satisfy the need for membership growth, voice lessons are being given during the chorus’ normal rehearsal time for two consecutive weeks.
The dates are Thursday, Jan. 10 and 17 at the Charter Tech High School, Route 9, Somers Point.
Women of all ages are invited to attend. Rehearsals begin at 7:15 and end at 10 p.m. Interested persons should plan to attend the entire time, for both nights. During the course of the night, the chorus and quartets will provide free entertainment.
“Musical knowledge isn’t necessary to sing with Sweet Adelines,” says organizer Betsy O’Shea. “Any woman with average singing ability or better, with or without vocal training, will find a part that fits her voice range.”
The Cape Shore Chorus rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings at 7:15 at the school, and welcomes visitors. The chorus performs at community service events, offers its talents at civic events, and has an annual fund-raising show. In addition it promotes harmony and friendship among women.
Celebrating more than 55 years of barbershop harmony, Sweet Adelines International has a membership of 28,000 women around the world.
The organization is dedicated to educating its members in the art of singing four-part harmony, barbershop style, and has as its motto “Harmonize the World.”
