COURT HOUSE – To ensure the safety of all who enter the courthouse, the Atlantic and Cape May County courts have developed protocols for courthouse access.
According to a release, these protocols promote safety by limiting the number of people in each courthouse and requiring personal protective measures for all court staff and court users.

  • Court users are permitted access to the courthouse only if:
  • They are noticed to appear for an in-person hearing. All other court users will be noticed to appear virtually or telephonically.
  • They are required to appear for a virtual hearing but do not have access to virtual technology. mThese court users should contact the division hearing their case (division numbers below) to advise of this need.
  • They are required to appear in-person for an appointment with their probation officer.

Court users accessing the courthouse will be required to do the following:

  • Wear a face covering or mask while they are in the building.  Each court user must have a mask upon entering.
  • Submit to a temperature scan using a non-invasive, no-contact thermometer administered by the Sheriff’s Department personnel at each court facility’s security desk before entry. If a court user’s temperature exceeds 100.4, they will not be granted access to the building. Division personnel will be notified.
  • Check in with designated court staff to confirm access is permitted based on the criteria above.
  • Limit unnecessary movement/travel around the building. Court users are asked to report directly to their courtroom or probation officer.
  • Maintain 6-feet social distancing requirements based on marked areas throughout the courthouse. This includes open atrium areas, elevators, stairwells, and courtrooms.   Elevators will be limited to two riders.

To promote the safety of our communities, we highly encourage court users and staff to follow CDC handwashing and sanitizing recommendations before, during, and after being in our facilities.
