Police Lights 1

By Press Release

TUCKAHOE – Troopers from the Woodbine Station were detailed to a possible drowning July 28 at approximately 3:05 p.m.
It was reported that a 20-year-old male went off a railroad bridge located in Upper Township into the Tuckahoe River. The male victim was with a group of friends who were swimming in this semi-popular spot in the river, some of whom were jumping off the railroad bridge and into the river for fun. The male subject went into the water and after seeing the subject struggling to stay afloat in the somewhat strong current, an attempt was made to save him by another swimmer who was present at the scene but was unsuccessful.
Recovery efforts are currently underway by New Jersey State Police (NJSP) T.E.A.M.S. Unit Dive Team, along with using a cadaver dog and a side scan sonar, assisted by NJSP Marine Unit. The investigation is ongoing, and at this time there are no criminal charges pending.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending recovery and notification of the next of kin.
