News Update 5.2.2006 – Man Burned In Trailer Fire

DIAS CREEK – A 3:59 a.m. fire in a travel trailer at King Nummy Campground burned its inhabitant, Jerome Hubis Jr., of Parkside, Pa., destroyed a nearby trailer and damaged two others May 2.
Middle Township police report they received a 9-1-1 call from the Route 47 campground, 206 State Highway 47.
On arrival, they found a travel trailer engulfed in flames with the fire spreading to other units, a motor vehicle and surrounding trees and brush.
Hubis was outside the trailer when police arrived, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.
He told police he was asleep and awoke to a fire-filled trailer. He escaped through a window.
Firefighters from Green Creek and Rio Grande responded to the scene, and quelled the blaze.
Middle Township Emergency Medical Service personnel and Medic 9 paramedics treated Hubis, who was later flown via helicopter to Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia.
A preliminary investigation found the accidental blaze started in a gas heater.
The county Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate along with the County Prosecutor’s Office and Middle Township police.
Hubis’ trailer and motor vehicle were destroyed by the fire.
