SEAVILLE — Two motorcyclists became lost during an off-road ride and were rescued after a two-hour search on Sun., Oct. 30.
State Police in the Woodbine Barracks received at call at approximately 6:30 p.m. reporting that Peter Paterno, 21, of Marmora and Nora Marshall, 19, of Port Republic, entered an off road trail in the vicinity of Route 50 and Peach Orchard Road. Paterno and Marshall rode for approximately 15 minutes when Paterno’s motorcycle experienced mechanical failure.
The two riders pushed the inoperable vehicle but then realized they were lost, losing daylight and could not find their way out. Paterno called 9-1-1- from his cell phone but was unable to give a location as to their whereabouts or the location of the trail the riders had entered. According to Paterno, he believed the trail was in the area of Peach Orchard Road and Somers Avenue.
The Seaville Volunteer Fire Department, Upper Township Rescue/Canine Detector John Van Epps arrived and assisted on scene. The Seaville Volunteer Fire Company utilized ATV’s in the search. A helicopter was called in to assist with the search but was later recalled when the pair was found.
After a two-hour search, Paterno and Marshall were located and escorted out of the woods. EMS attempted to offer first aid, however Marshall and Paterno declined treatment, stating neither one sustained injuries.
