VILLAS – Lower Township Council tabled its ordinance creating an overlay zone in the general business (GB-1) zone that would have permitted the delivery and sale of cannabis in the township.
Mayor Frank Sippel told the public Ordinance 2022-15, which would have created an overlay zone in the Bayshore Mall allowing a retail cannabis operation, was introduced at council’s Nov. 21 meeting. The ordinance was sent to the Lower Township Planning Board, which responded with a letter to council on Dec. 8. Sippel read from the planning board’s letter, which said the ordinance was consistent with the Lower Township master plan and zoning ordinance and recommends approval.
“However, it was not advertised properly for tonight’s meeting,” Sippel said.
Deputy Mayor David Perry moved to table the ordinance until the next regular meeting. The township will hold its annual reorganization meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at 7 p.m., and its first regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, at 7 p.m.
Lower Township Council meetings are generally held the first and third Mondays of each month, unless noted differently.
