Lifesaving Class Offered at the Library

The Cape May County Office of Risk Management and Safety will present a lifesaving class at the county library on Monday, October 6, 2008. The class on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator, AED, will take place from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Library located at 30 Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.The purpose of the course is to train individuals to recognize and provide basic care for breathing emergencies until medical personnel are available. The CPR and AED program teaches the principles of basic life support for adults, children, and infants. Find out the latest guidelines for CPR and emergency cardiac care including how to assess the scene of an emergency and evaluate the victim’s condition. The course details how to perform one-rescuer CPR and rescue breathing, and how to manage choking in a conscious person. Also highlighted is infection control. The AED portion of the program details key operating characteristics and demonstrates proper precautions and maintenance techniques. Learn why AEDs are a critical part of emergency cardiac care.The Office of Risk Management and Safety was established by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders to protect county resources, with a primary focus on cultivating a safety and health conscious culture.
