Hundreds of Thousands Of Harleys Roar Into The Wildwoods

By On Deck Staff

It’s that time of year again, so polish your bike and cruise down to the Wildwoods for the largest motorcycle rally in the Northeast. ‘Roar to the Shore’, held September 4-7, draws over 120,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to the Wildwoods each year for a one-of-a-kind rally that’s non-stop excitement from start to finish. Unlike other motorcycle rallies, ‘Roar to the Shore’ is an event that has a little something for everyone and appeals to both motorcycle riders and enthusiasts alike. Gearing up to be bigger and more exciting than last year, the 2008 rally sponsored by Budweiser, Jack Daniels, Rider Insurance, Cape Classics and the Wildwood Harley Davidson Dealership, promises to keep you coming back year after year.
The live entertainment starts daily at 9 a.m., when the vendor areas open on Atlantic Avenue at Oak and Wildwood Avenues and also in the parking lots directly in front of the Wildwoods Convention Center. Whether you’re looking for clothing, parts for your bike, jewelry, leather or even cigars, ‘Roar to the Shore’ is stocking the streets for all of your shopping needs. But don’t forget about the live music and motorcycle stunt shows as well. Bands including Kathouse and the Coyote Band, which was started by the owner of the Coyote Ugly Bars, will be constantly rotating between vending areas to keep the energy level up and the party atmosphere flowing. There’s also motorcycle stunt shows with gravity defying feats being held at the Wildwoods Convention Center that will take your breath away. After browsing the vendors, listening to the entertainment and watching the stunt shows at the Convention Center, stop inside for the 3rd Annual Fast Lane Biker Pro Builder Show and Motorcycle Trade Show on September 5th and 6th. This display of chrome, custom paint jobs and pure creativity will leave you standing in awe after viewing exhibits from renowned custom builders Arlen Ness, Billy Lane, John Lange, Martin Dring, Bill Lodge, Keino, Black Label Choppers, Jim Nasi and many more. Also, back again after a one-year hiatus, the Budweiser Clydesdales will attend the rally, participating in daily parades and being housed at the corner of Schellenger and Atlantic Avenues. Come and take your picture with these magnificent horses and see a genuine icon of America.
Don’t miss the daily events happening throughout the island. Friday, September 5th: Motorcycles will gather at the Bolero, located on Oak and Atlantic Avenues, for a guided tour up the Parkway to Kindle Ford for a traditional Pig Roast. Saturday, September 6: the day starts off at 11AM with the start of the FREE Walking Poker Run. Contestants will venture to participating bars in Wildwood to collect playing cards in the hopes of creating the best hand of Poker by the end of the Run. A $1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the best card shark. The Annual Biker Babe Contest will be held following the Poker Run with bragging rights and $1,000 in cash to be awarded to the winner. To close the weekend on Sunday, September 7th: the 2nd Annual Rubber Duck Boardwalk Ride will take place at 12:30 p.m. with all proceeds going to benefit the United Way of Cape May County. Throughout the weekend you can purchase your rubber duck and extra raffle tickets at designated areas to participate in the ride and to also get a chance to win a 2008 Harley Davidson Street Bob. The drawling for the bike will be held at the Wildwoods Convention Center immediately after the ride is finished.
