Woodbine Receives State Transportation Grant

By Herald Staff

TRENTON — Gov. Jon S. Corzine Aug. 13 announced $19.75 million in Transportation Enhancement grants to municipalities located in all 21 counties, including in Woodbine.
According to a release, the grants will fund 35 local quality of life, bikeway and pedestrian safety projects.
Under this announcement, Woodbine will receive a $450,000 grant for town center streetscape improvements and a pedestrian safety program.
“These Transportation Enhancement grants will stimulate economic recovery at the local level by improving quality of life and creating jobs,” Corzine said.
“In addition, the program complements NJDOT’s $50 million increase in aid to counties and municipalities, which will improve locally-owned transportation infrastructure and boost the economy.”
The Transportation Enhancement grants are funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as well as NJDOT’s Fiscal 2010 Capital Program. NJDOT will provide Transportation Enhancement grants to fund four bikeways projects, thirteen pedestrian safety projects, and eighteen quality of life projects, such as streetscape improvements.
The goal of the Transportation Enhancement program is to foster more livable communities by enhancing travel, preserving and protecting environmental and cultural resources, and promoting alternative modes of transportation. Projects selected are ready for delivery and are subject to ARRA deadlines for authorization and project completion.
