OCEAN CITY – Rather than trying to bring the Ocean City Lifesaving Station to City Hall, City Council may decide to go to the station.
Councilman Michael DeVlieger has sought an update on progress and plans for the historic building at the corner of Fourth Street and Atlantic Avenue. It’s been years since the city bought the station for close to $1 million to keep it from being demolished to make way for duplexes.
Extensive interior and exterior renovations have been completed. On June 28, council unanimously approved going to bid for Phase 3 of renovations, at which point DeVlieger again mentioned getting a report on the progress.
Mayor Jay Gillian said council could go one better and host a council meeting there over the summer. It’s up to council where and when meetings take place, he said. Then he added that it’s a city building and there’s room enough. Council made no commitment but seemed intrigued by the idea.
