Wildwood Presents Salary Ordinance

WILDWOOD — An ordinance determining whether city employees – from commissioners to comfort station attendants – make $25,500 a year or $7.15 an hour in their bi-weekly paychecks was introduced Dec. 12.
They may make the policy decisions and be at the receiving end of a lot of public comment, but the three Wildwood Commissioners make a minimum of $10,000 a year to a maximum of $25,500 a year.
The city solicitor’s salary ranges from $25,000 to $80,000 while Wildwood’s financial officer and Director of the Urban Enterprise Zone can make a maximum of $100,000 a year.
A police officer walking the beat here starts at a minimum of $20,586 and can make up to $75,000 a year. The city’s police chief, captains, lieutenants and sergeants all start at $45,000, but the department’s chief can make a maximum of $110,000.
A firefighter’s pay starts at $36,300 and can reach $70,000. The fire chief’s salary is a maximum of $100,000.
Lifeguards, whether a lieutenant or a medic, start at $7.15 and could make a $20 hourly wage.
The city’s tax assessor makes a maximum of $95,000, a tax clerk tops out at $40,000 and tax collector can potentially make $70,000.
The public defender makes a maximum of $25,000 and the municipal prosecutor paycheck can go up to $40,000. The municipal court administrator maximum salary is $55,000.
Electrical and plumbing sub-code inspectors can make up to $80,000. A housing inspector’s salary can reach $45,000, the fire code inspector can make a $20 hourly rate, and the fire inspector $80,000 a year.
Part-time building, electrical, fire, plumbing and sub-code inspectors’ paychecks range from $15 per hour to $60 hourly.
Switchboard operators, recreation leaders, school crossing guards and a public relations clerk could take home $20 per hour.
According to the ordinance, raises are granted only once per person in a twelve-month period and may not exceed $1,000.
