COURT HOUSE – June 8: Today, the county reported three additional fatalities in the struggle with COVID-19. The deaths claimed an 82-year-old woman, from Ocean City, an 87-year-old woman, from Dennis Township, and a 55-year-old man, from West Cape May.
This was the first COVID-19 related fatality for West Cape May. All of the deaths were listed as community-based cases not associated with long-term care facilities.
The county also reported two new community-based cases, both in Wildwood, along with one new case in a Middle Township long-term care facility.
Total cases for the county now stand at 659, with 435 individuals off quarantine, 171 active cases, and the 53 fatalities.
The numbers came as Gov. Phil Murphy announced that public and private pools would be allowed to open June 22. The health and safety restrictions that the pools will have to follow have not yet been released.
Today, the state reported 40 new fatalities and 356 additional cases. The state’s case total is 164,497, with 12, 214 deaths.
With Stage 2 of Murphy’s phased Road Back plan set to start June 15, hospitalizations continue to decline. Across the state today, 361 COVID-19 patients require the use of a ventilator, which is only 11.6% of the state capacity.
Yesterday’s attribution of an error in the county chart was itself an error. The count for yesterday, as reported, was three new cases for a total of 656.
