Van Drew Urges Flood Victims to Visit Disaster Center

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — In efforts to help provide assistance and relief to home owners struggling with the historic rise in the local water table due to the tough winter; Sen. Jeff Van Drew is urging residents that have been affected by flooding resulting in property damage to contact the newly set up Disaster Recovery Center.
The Disaster Recovery Center is a collaboration between local and County Emergency Managements, as well as the New Jersey State Police. The Center will be located at the basement of the Cape May County Library. All residents are first asked to register with FEMA by phone 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or online at www.disasterassistance.gov before contacting the Center.
The Disaster Recovery Center will link residents with FEMA Community Representatives to try and resolve issues that have arisen from flooding damage. When possible, documentation should be kept by home owners to help with the process of trying to provide relief. Residents that still have flooding issues with standing water are asked to first contact their municipality for assistance in removing the excess water.
“The efforts that the New Jersey State Police, County Emergency Management, and local municipalities have made to assist the residents of Cape May County have been commendable,” Van Drew said. “Cape May County residents have had a historically tough winter and spring, but they can be assured that I, along with Assemblyman Albano, Assemblyman Milam, the New Jersey State Police, Cape May County Emergency Management, and their local municipality, will do everything in our power to help provide them with any assistance and relief that we can.”
