PETERSBURG – At its April 27 meeting, Upper Township Committee approved the municipality’s 2020 budget, totaling $14.46 million, with a fraction of a cent increase to the municipal tax rate.
Leon Costello, the municipal auditor, affirmed to Committee that the budget is within the state-imposed limits on the tax rate and spending increases.
During public comment, a Strathmere resident asked what happens to the line item for lifeguards if they are not needed.
“First, I’d like to thank everyone for making this budget process go so smoothly and with such a very low increase that we almost got to zero,” said Mayor Richard Palombo. “About lifeguards, we are anticipating that our beaches will be open in the summer and that we will need our lifeguards.”
