PETERSBURG – During Upper Township Committee’s July 23 meeting, Business Administrator Scott Morgan said that the municipality’s beach patrol along with the Strathmere Volunteer Fire Department and the township rescue squad had conducted a highly-successful drill under a multiple drowning scenario July 19 at Whale Beach. Bill Handley, captain of the beach patrol noted, “We had a witness on scene who played the role of the victim’s father and alert teams under Code Red responded with their equipment including Polaris. The victims had medical issues that the teams addressed when brought to shore. One appeared to be semi-conscious and coughing up water. I kept time to clock the drill, and we learned how effective is our notification system and the quickest travel routes to the Whale Beach location in Strathmere.”
