PETERSBURG – Upper Township Committee adopted an ordinance at its Aug. 22 meeting that permits consideration of alcohol sales on township premises.
Per Municipal Attorney Dan Reeves, the measure authorizes the township to allow vendors on a case-by-case basis to conduct sales in “adult-only areas” at events on Upper premises. The ordinance complies with state statutes.
State guidance says that approval is “not to be unreasonably withheld,” according to Reeves.
Both Mayor Curtis Corson and Committee member John Coggins voted against adoption of the measure. They suggested it was not in the spirit of promoting Upper’s “family atmosphere” and that alcohol had no place at Upper’s events.
