PETERSBURG – At the Upper Township Committee meeting Dec. 3 a resolution was unanimously approved increasing the height requirements along the bayfront in Strathmere. The amended resolution increases the height of bulkheads from 7 feet to 8 feet. Property owners with bulkheads lower than 8 feet have 10 years to meet the new height requirement.
All new construction or reconstruction would need to meet the new height requirement. The amendment is aimed at preventing flooding as well as a hedge against rising sea levels, and to potentially ease the flood zone rating for the area under Federal Emergency Management Agency maps.
