NORTH WILDWOOD – Lt. John Stevenson and Lt. Kevin Tolan Sr. were both promoted to Captain of the North Wildwood Police Department during a city council meeting Nov. 19. The promotion left standing room only for the meeting.
“I want to thank you all publically,” Mayor Bill Henfey said to the North Wildwood Police Department. “North Wildwood has always had a proactive police department.”
Henfey offered the nominations for Tolan and Stevenson to be promoted. He said that these men have worked various positions, whenever needed, within in the department making them a true asset to North Wildwood.
Cpt. Stevenson has been working with the North Wildwood Police Department since 1993. He was a summer officer until he was hired as a full time officer and assigned to work as a detective in 1995. Stevenson’s mother and father were present for his swearing in as were his wife and children. His father is a retired Philadelphia police officer and was honored to pin his son.
Cpt. Tolan was a marine where he made the rank of sergeant. After leaving the Marine Corps, Tolan came back to North Wildwood to work for the police department. Tolan’s wife, son and mother were there to see him sworn in. His son, Kevin Tolan Jr., is a Marine Corp veteran and a current North Wildwood Police Department recruit. He was there to pin his father.
North Wildwood also made an appointment to Sal DeSimone’s construction company to help alleviate insurance premiums. Currently, the city’s residents get a 15 percent savings. DeSimone could potentially help residents reach a savings of 25 percent.
Representatives from Hope and Healing also spoke at the meeting to remind residents of potential grant money they can receive due to Superstorm Sandy. There are grants ranging from $5,000 to about $15,000 available to those who are seeing ramifications from the storm. Those grants can be applied for through a simple form at the social services building in Rio Grande.
