Tipping Gets Avalon Council President Seat

AVALON — Council nominated Joseph Tipping as new council president at a reorganization meeting July 2.
Councilman David Ellenburg was nominated vice president.
Tipping and Ellenburg were both recognized with plaques for attending government edu-cation classes.
The Honorable W. Robert Hentges assisted in the swearing in of newly re-elected Mayor Martin Pagliughi, Councilman Charles Covington, and Richard Dean who were joined by family as they took vows of office in front of the standing-room-only crowd.
The mayor nominated Andrew Benarek as returning business administrator, Stephen Barse as borough solicitor, Harry deButts as director of public works and utilities and James Caraft as director of revenue and finance for a term of four years.
At a regular meeting June 28, former Council President Nancy Hudanich, presented a year in review, listing accomplishments of the year as continued progress with the Avalon library, downtown, and museum. She also noted flood insurance discounts, shared service agreements, and technological connections.
Ellenburg said that council continues to go against the, “T.T.W.W.A.D.T. approach, or That’s The Way We Always Do It.”
