PETERSBURG – At the Sept. 9 Upper Township Committee meeting, Engineer Paul Dietrich reported that the beach in Strathmere lost sand as Hurricane Dorian moved north off the New Jersey coast.
Most impacted was the north-end point of the beach. Dietrich added that the Army Corps of Engineers beach nourishment projects for Ocean City, Strathmere and Sea Isle City would be out for bids Sept. 15, and a contract would be awarded Sept. 30.
Officials were confident that the amount of sand required for replenishment, as specified in the contract, would be sufficient despite the recent erosion. The nourishment project for Strathmere is anticipated to begin in mid-October and completed by March 2020.
