PETERSBURG – During public comment at the April 27 Upper Township Committee meeting, a Strathmere resident thanked Mayor Richard Palombo for closing the beaches and keeping residents safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I know this was not a popular decision, but everyone’s health and well-being comes first,” Palombo said.
Municipal Engineer Paul Dietrich added that Public Works is examining the condition of Strathmere beaches regularly, particularly the erosion-prone north end. He said when they reopen they would make improvements as needed for expected, minor erosion to the beaches when they reopen.
