Stormwater Infrastructure Grant Programs Announced

TRENTON – As part of its comprehensive efforts to improve water quality and mitigate the worsening impacts of flooding caused by climate change, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has announced it is seeking applications for $10 million in grants to modernize stormwater management systems and to provide technical assistance to municipal, county and utility authorities to plan to become more resilient, including conducting studies on the feasibility of forming stormwater utilities and resilience planning for local governments impacted by Tropical Storm Ida, that will focus on strategies to better manage the impacts of stormwater.

Stormwater Competitive Grant Program ($7 million)

NJDEP is using money from the state’s Corporate Business Tax and Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund (SFRF) to fund the $7 million Stormwater Competitive Grant Program. Grants are open to any property owner and will be used for Green Infrastructure, Stormwater Asset Management Planning, Existing Infrastructure Enhancement, and Removal and Restoration of Impervious Areas.
NJDEP has issued a Request for Proposals (RFPs) to solicit applications for eligible projects. The deadline for submitting proposals is midnight September 14, 2022. Proposals must be submitted electronically using NJDEP’s System for Administering Grants Electronically (NJDEP SAGE) at https://njdepsage.intelligrants.com [t.e2ma.net]. Registered users will log on and the listing for this RFP will be under, “View Available Opportunities,” Stormwater Assistance and Grants 2022.  Information on how to register and use NJDEP SAGE will be provided at the public information session.
