STONE HARBOR – Stone Harbor Planning Board held a hearing on the 2019 Master Plan Reexamination Report June 10. In the same meeting, the report was adopted.
The report identifies sustainability as a major challenge, one tied to numerous aspects of borough planning. Among the issues raised in the report’s 34 pages are, concepts of a redevelopment area at the marina, the suggestion of a resort tax, and the creation of a zoning classification for the Courts, with the smallest buildable lots in the borough.
The Courts are a residential district of small homes and bungalows which the report states “were a staple of the shore experience.” Residents of the Courts pressed their desire for relief from some of the size constraints imposed by existing zoning.
At the Stone Harbor Borough Council meeting July 2, Mayor Judith Davies-Dunhour said the next task facing the Planning Board and the governing body was prioritizing the recommendations in the report. She also spoke of the need for an action plan that clarifies priorities and responsibilities for implementation.
