State Police Crackdown On Tailgaters

By Herald Staff

WEST TRENTON– State Troopers will target tailgaters on the Garden State Parkway. The two-week crackdown begins Saturday and runs through Oct. 31.
State police will use new laser technology, which calculates the time and distance between vehicles, to enforce the tailgating law.
Troopers will be patrolling in unmarked vehicles, including sports cars, sedans and SUVs.
Stats show that following another vehicle too closely causes about one-third of the crashes on the toll roads.
According to State Police in ideal conditions, motorists should maintain a distance of one car length behind another vehicle for every 10 mph they are traveling.
Violators face fines and points assessed to their driving record.
To report aggressive drivers on the Parkway call (888) 723-7623
