SEA ISLE CITY – In his continuous briefings for Sea Isle City Council and the public, Mayor Leonard Desiderio told council members, at their May 26 meeting, that he is participating in daily calls with Gov. Phil Murphy’s staff, regarding how to reopen Cape May County businesses and recreation for visitors and customers as soon as possible.
“As co-chair of the county’s COVID economic recovery task force, I’m stressing that we can’t wait longer than absolutely necessary and accelerate getting our businesses open and our people back to work,” Desiderio said. “It’s essential that we move beyond curbside pickup and take out, for example, and it’s not fair that the ‘big box’ stores have remained open through the quarantine, while our smaller shops, which can do the same job of protecting customers, have remained closed.”
“It’s really become a fairness issue,” the mayor added.
