Sea Isle Awards Thornton ‘Key to City’

SEA ISLE CITY – At their meeting Dec. 13, governing body members passed a resolution, honoring retiring County Commissioner Gerald Thornton for 40-plus-years of service.
Mayor Leonard Desiderio, also a county commissioner, lauded Thornton by noting, “his are large shoes that can’t be filled.”
Desiderio gave Thornton the ‘key to the city’, which the mayor promised allowed Thornton to freely park anywhere, even where there was a meter.
“What he did for the county definitely trickled down to SIC to make things better for us here.”
Thornton responded to the various accolades, emotionally noting it was the joy of his lifetime to have served the county.
