Saduk to Head Public Safety Training Center

By Al Campbell

CREST HAVEN — When Gary Schaffer of Ocean City takes the oath of sheriff from Superior Court Judge Kyran Connor on Jan. 2, the county Police Safety Training Center will already be under the direction of his long-time aide, Anthony “Tony” Saduk.
Saduk, a retired Middle Township Police Department captain, will take over the post Jan. 1. He has been with Schaffer at the academy on Crest Haven Road for about seven years.
“We will not lose a heart beat,” said Schaffer.
Assisting him in overseeing the center, which trains police, firefighters, and rescue personnel, will be another veteran to the center from another local police department, Ted Nagel.
Nagel will be the center’s training coordinator.
The appointments of both were approved by a resolution that freeholders approved at their Dec. 23 meeting.
Vice Director Ralph Sheets Jr., who oversees county public safety matters, introduced the resolution making those appointments.
Schaffer said Nagel “has a lot of good experience” in firearms training, physical fitness and teaching in various positions.
One of Nagel’s accomplishments was the training of members of the county’s regional S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons and Tactics teams.)
Both Saduk and Nagel are “well respected in law enforcement circles,” said Schaffer.
