North Wildwood Designates Surfing Beach

By Press Release

NORTH WILDWOOD – North Wildwood Administration announced today the operation of one surfing beach in North Wildwood for the Summer of 2015. Surfing will be permitted on a nearly 400ft section of beach between 2nd & Ocean Avenues – 3rd Avenue & JFK Blvd. The decision stems from the lack of beach at 12th Avenue, which prior years, was also a designated location for surfing while lifeguards are on duty. Although surfing locations during the day will be limited, after 5:30 p.m., surfing is open to any location of beach in North Wildwood on a “Swim At Your Own Risk” basis. Over the years, North Wildwood has seen significant beach erosion caused by major coastal storms, including but not limited to Super Storm Sandy. City Administration came to the conclusion to close the 12th Avenue beach to surfers, after long talks and consultation between elected officials, North Wildwood Beach Patrol and Coastal Engineering Consultants. “It was a very hard decision to make, especially as an avid water enthusiast and paddle boarder myself,” said Mayor Patrick Rosenello. “Unfortunately, due to erosion we can no longer provide both bathing/swimming and a surfing beach near 12th Avenue.”
