Newest Addition to Ocean City’s Police Department Gets Hero’s Welcome

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

OCEAN CITY — The newest member of Ocean City Police Department, “Deuce,” arrived to a hero’s welcome Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Ocean City Primary School.
Chief of Police Chad Callahan announced second grade student Brad “Deuce” Tucker, 8, was the winner of the K-9 Dog naming contest during a morning assembly attended by pupils, Mayor Sal Perillo, Jay Gillian and Pat Croce.
Croce, an Ocean City resident and former Philadelphia 76ers president, donated the funds to purchase the new K-9 dog. Jay Gillian, also an Ocean City resident and business owner, donated the funds for all the additional cost.
Ocean City Chamber of Commerce assisted with fund raising efforts, so that the new K-9 program would not cost the taxpayers of the city additional money.
“Deuce” and K-9 Officer Jon Vogt will attend 16 weeks of training to prepare for their new joint assignment.
