ERMA – The Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) Commissioners awarded Contract WWD-20-01 to Arthur J. Ogren, Inc. of Vineland, New Jersey to construct a new Airport Terminal Building on Hornet Road at the Cape May Airport late last year. The contractor is expected to begin construction on or about March 13, 2023. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $7.4 million, and Cape May County is providing approximately $250,000 directly in support of the terminal, with additional funds committed to roadway and parking enhancements in the immediate vicinity.
“The existing terminal building’s layout and condition are not suitable for future terminal needs and functions,” said Stephen D. Williams, Deputy Executive Director for the DRBA. “The old terminal is located far away from the Fixed-Based Operator (FBO) and associated fueling facilities. It makes sense to have the terminal building, FBO and fueling operations located in one central location.”
“We are very pleased and appreciative of the ongoing collaborative partnership with the DRBA team that has paved the way for the substantive improvement now occurring at the airport,” said Cape May County Commissioner Will Morey. “The new terminal will set a high bar for future development and redevelopment at the County’s airport, which we see as an important contributor to our economic development efforts aimed at attracting new businesses and industries to our community.”
Williams added that Cape May County continues to invest significant funds to develop a new airport entrance at Hornet Road. “The DRBA and the County have established a strong working partnership that is transforming and modernizing the airport that will pay dividends for both Airport customers and Cape May County residents.”
The new 5,400 SF building, which consists of offices, meeting space, aviation customer support spaces, and public lobby space, will be situated at the end of Hornet Road on the airport apron.
The project also includes the demolition of two hangars and related hazardous material abatement, new vehicle and pedestrian access gates, asphalt parking lot, exterior lighting, building signage, hardscaping, utility tie-ins, stormwater mitigation, and landscaping. Work is expected to begin in March 2023 with a projected completion in the first quarter of 2024.
The consulting engineer and architectural firms are C&S Engineers of Philadelphia, PA and Fennick McCreddie of Boston, MA respectively.
