PETERSBURG – Upper Township Committee passed a resolution June 11 at its regular meeting to renew alcoholic beverage licenses for 2018. That prompted several committee members to ponder whether that number could be increased. “In our master plan for expanding the township’s Town Center concept we have encouraging language that restaurants will be able to obtain new liquor licenses, up from our existing number of 30,” said Committee member John Coggins.
Solicitor Daniel Young noted, “Our population has not increased significantly although we do have more people in the summer because of the various campgrounds. But that fact alone is not enough to warrant additional liquor licenses.
There are some proposals regarding how to allocate liquor licenses pending in the state Legislature, but it’s unclear which, if any, will be passed.
Committee asked Young to research details about how the township might follow up on its desire to obtain more liquor licenses.
