TRENTON – With one full month under his belt as a member of New Jersey’s 218th Legislature, the New Jersey General Assembly’s newest member, Matt Milam, representing the 1st Legislative District, encompassing Cape May, Atlantic and Cumberland counties, has been named as a member of the Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources and Military and Veterans Affairs Committees by Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin.
“I’m incredibly excited to roll up my sleeves and delve deep into my committee assignments,” stated Milam in a release. “New Jersey’s 1st District acts as one of our state’s leaders in the agricultural industry, and I have spent years getting to understand and learn to solve some of the industry’s biggest problems. Additionally, my previous appointment to the Assembly Military and Veterans Affairs Committee makes this the perfect committee to utilize my expertise.”
“Matt’s experience and knowledge in the areas of agriculture and military and veterans affairs will be essential in tackling challenges and creating opportunities for New Jerseyans across our state,” stated Speaker Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “I am proud to serve with him in the Assembly, am confident in Matt’s leadership and look forward to his contributions to the committees.”
Milam previously represented New Jersey’s 1st Legislative District in the General Assembly from 2008 to 2013, serving as chair of the Assembly Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committee and vice-chair of the Assembly Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, making his new appointment to the latter committee his second stint on the panel.
Aside from Milam’s past experience as a member of the General Assembly, he has proven to be a successful small-businessman, having served as chairman and CEO of Foundry Service Corporation, and Miles & Co., Inc. from 1979 to 2018.
Milam has also served as the vice-chairman of the Cumberland County Economic Development Board, national director for the American Foundry Society, which has over 10,000 members and has been on the Board of Directors for the Vineland YMCA, Bayshore Discovery Project and Spirit and Truth Ministries.
