COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committee passed on first reading Feb. 21 an ordinance to set sewer rates for 2018. Higher fees from the county MUA led the township to change its rate structure for some sewer users.
Individual family dwellings would continue to pay a flat fee the same as in 2017, $560. Multiple family dwellings would move to $560 per unit.
Commercial establishments, previously in the same category as hotels and motels, changes in the new rate structure.
Commercial users would pay a flat rate per unit as well as a $0.01 per gallon for usage over 40,000 gallons.
Hotels and motels would move to $320 per unit, as well as a $0.01 per gallon charge for usage over 20,000 gallons.
The goal is to provide an incentive for metered users to conserve. A March 19 hearing is scheduled.
