Middle Approves Appointees’ Salaries

By Joe Hart

COURT HOUSE — Middle Township Committee made it official Monday night, Nov. 17.
The governing body passed a resolution appointing a replacement for its retiring business administrator.
Mark Mallett, a former casino executive, will start work Nov. 24 learning the day-to-day operations of the township from long-serving Administrator James Alexis, who plans to retire on Jan. 31.
Mallett sat in the audience and took notes on the issues raised at the meeting. Those issues will soon be his to deal with. At Mayor F. Nathan Doughty’s request, Mallett introduced himself to the other attendees.
On Monday night, Committee also introduced a salary ordinance, which established Mallett’s interim Civil Service job title of deputy business administrator while Alexis remains in Township Hall.
When asked about the new position, Committeeman Steve Barry said that, once Alexis retired and Mallett assumed his job, that deputy position would cease to exist, and would not be refilled.
Mallett’s annual salary was listed as $93,000.
Also appointed Monday was the township’s new Construction Official Donald Arndt, who replaced the retiring James Cannon.
Arndt started serving in that capacity on Nov. 10 at an annual salary of $60,000.
Deputy Clerk Kimberly Tomkinson is also expected to be officially named Township Clerk after Alexis retires. Alexis has been Administrator/Clerk since the retirement of Township Clerk Sharon Coco.
