MIDDLE TOWNSHIP PRESS RELEASE:
COURT HOUSE — On Jan. 5 in one of her first official acts as Mayor, Sue Atkinson DeLanzo placed on the agenda, a resolution authorizing the expenditure of up to $30,000 for an Emergency Capital Fund Appropriation for repairs to an aging drainpipe system.
An investigation was conducted to determine why Marlyn Manor residents were experiencing serious flooding during heavy rains. The investigation revealed a major blockage of a drainage pipe at Fourth Street and Maryland Avenue caused by tree roots; it is estimated by Township Engineer, Vince Orlando, that the pipe is blocked as much as 80 percent.
“I am hopeful that this expenditure will provide some much needed relief for the residents that have been suffering from the recent flooding. This is what we are here for as officials and I am very happy that we could assist in the situation,”’ stated DeLanzo.
Work is expected to begin within the next two weeks, weather permitting.
At the same meeting, another resolution was introduced and was passed to hire a hydro-geologic engineer for further studies of the impact of a nearby development on the water table in the area. That resolution is not to exceed $10,700.
