Maschio Runs Unopposed for Council Seat

By Lauren Suit

NORTH WILDWOOD — Republican incumbent Robert Maschio will run unopposed for the 1st Ward position after Councilman Walt Larcombe, who currently holds the post, opted not to run for re-election.
“Even though I’m running unopposed, I’m not going to lay back,” said Maschio. “I’m working on everything from a broken water fountain to a busted transformer.”
Maschio told the Herald that as chairperson of the finance committee he is “very proud of the budget the city produced.”
He also said that he was spearheading an initiative to use Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) funds and provide initiatives that would both help existing businesses and attract new commercial ventures.
“The funds could be used for low interest loans, help with rent or put into building facades,” Maschio said.
But before funds can be put back into the business community, Maschio said that the city should take a closer look at its business zoning when the master plan is reviewed.
“We have an entertainment district but what is the business district,” Maschio asked. “It is a little bit all over the place, little clusters of businesses everywhere.”
Maschio has lived in North Wildwood with his wife Kim since 1990. They have four children, Jimmy, Bobby, Alexandra and Gabriella.
He credits his children with much of his involvement in the community.
Maschio is the former Assistant Republican City Leader, an active board member of the Children’s Fresh Air Home and current President of the Greater Wildwood Optimist Club. He is also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Loyal Order of Moose and board member for the Wildwood Kiwanis club.
He is presently the general manager of Coastal Broadcasting in Wildwood.
