Man Charged in Ocean City with Weapons Offense

OCEAN CITY – On Oct. 9, 2011, at 8:02 p.m., the Ocean City Police Department responded to assist a tow truck company with a disabled vehicle on the beach near 59th Street. Information received from the tow truck company, who had arrived before the officers, was that the driver of the vehicle was in possession of a handgun and was acting in a suspicious manner. Upon receiving this information the officers utilized an unmarked vehicle to approach the suspect with the handgun.
As the officers approached and identified themselves the suspect went to his vehicle and began to reach for something on the passenger seat. The officers utilized their service weapons and ordered the suspect away from the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
Discovered on the front seat of the suspect’s vehicle was a Smith & Wesson .357 caliber revolver fully loaded. Also found in the vehicle were suspected marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. The suspect, Alfred E. Schubert, 64, was charged on an arrest warrant issued by Judge Richard Russell, JMC. Bail was set at $5,000.00 or 10%. Investigating officers were: Lt. Gene Sharpe, Sgt. Jon Campo, Ptl. Anthony Fearnhead and Ptl. Doug Varnold.
