Lower Police Log a Busy July

LOWER TOWNSHIP POLICE RELEASE:
ERMA — The Lower Township Police Department received over 2,890 calls for service during month of July.
Officers investigated 47 Domestic Violence complaints along with the following offenses:
10 Assaults
46 Theft investigations
14 Burglaries
42 Criminal Mischief Complaints
80 Disorderly Conduct Complaints
57 Animal Complaints
Lower Township Officers responded to and investigated 71 Motor Vehicle Accidents while issuing 149 traffic summonses and 48 traffic warnings while conducting 525 motor vehicle stops and 703 Commercial and Residential Property Checks.
Officers arrested 39 adults and four juveniles during the month, including 7 persons for Driving While Intoxicated and 2 for Possession of a Narcotics.
Officers responded to 148 Emergency Medical Calls with the Lower Township Rescue Squad and 32 Fire Alarm Calls with the township’s three fire departments. Patrol Officers responded to 68 commercial and residential burglar alarms in July.
Two police officers were assaulted after responding to disorderly persons calls.
Some of the more serious incidents during the month of July included:
• July 1, Sex Crimes Investigation — Police announce the arrest of a 36 year old male on two (2) counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Endangering The Welfare Of A Child. The arrest was the result of a cooperative investigation by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit and the Lower Township Police Department Detective Division.
• July 4, DWI/Serious Motor Vehicle Accident — Man arrested for DWI after driving his vehicle in reverse for several blocks and striking two (2) parked vehicles.
• July 5, Narcotics Investigation — Sixteen year old male juvenile arrested for Possession of 150 bags of Heroin with Intent to Distribute
• July 11,Water Rescue — Police, Fire and Rescue Persànnel assisted with a water rescue at the Wuerker’s Farm Gravel Pits, when a 16 year old male sustained a neck injury while swimming. The boy’s companions were credited with saving his life by performing rescue
breathing and CPR on him prior to the first responders arrival.
• July 12, Attempted Aggravated Assault on Police Officers — A 60-year-old male threatened officers with a club in a Domestic Violence Incident.
• July 13, Sex Crimes Investigation — A 22-year-old male was arrested for the Sexual Assault of a 17-year-old female.
• July 14, Serious Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment — A 31-year-old male was air lifted with head injuries following a single car motor vehicle accident on Seashore Road at Stimpson’s Lane.
• July 17, Car Burglaries — Multiple vehicles were entered with various items being taken. A 19-year-old male and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested for the car burglaries. Property was recovered and returned to victims.
• July 22, Serious Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment — Roll Over Motor Vehicle Accident on State Highway Route 47 in Shawcrest. victim was transported to Atlantic City Medical Center.
• July 23, Aggravated Assault Investigation — A 19 year old male was arrested for the Aggravated Assault of a 17 year old male during a house party on Caspian Avenue in North Cape May.
• July 26, Officer Involved Shooting — Police Officers responding to a Domestic Violence call at approximately 1:30 am, were met by an enraged man wielding a large 4X4 post. A Police Officer fired one round from his service weapon when the man attempted to strike his girlfriend with the pole The incident did not result in any injuries and the suspect was charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
