VILLAS — It’s green, online and unique. What is it? Lower Township’s monthly newsletter that will spread community information among many organizations and residents.
The newsletter can be accessed at the township’s Web site:

Mayor Michael Beck said a monthly “green newsletter” is the perfect marriage of new technology and a need to get people in touch with what is happening inside government and around town. He said a meeting was held in August with 50-60 groups at Township Hall. Each group provided their e-mails.
“We point and click, they get it and point and click, and our “paper” is in hundreds if not thousands of homes,” said Beck. “I think it is the perfect antidote to combat the lack of trust that people have in all the layers of government.”
The newsletter is “green” because it exists only online and does not involve printing on paper or spending money for postage to distribute.
Beck said he has received positive comments on the newsletter. The first edition contains information on grants received by the township, a schedule of budget hearings, plans for Ponderlodge and construction projects on Bayshore Road.
He said the same 15 or 20 people attend Township Council meetings, but the newsletter will go to residents’ homes via the Web.
Beck thanked the Mayor’s Advisory Committee, Jay Witmoyer and Erik Simonsen for their work on the newsletter.
Those who would like to receive the newsletter may email Town Hall from the township’s Web site.
