Local Man Pronounced Dead After Being Pulled Unresponsive From Cape May Harbor

LOWER TOWNSHIP– The Town Bank dive team was called to the Harbor View Marina at 11:20 p.m., on Monday, May 17 for a possible drowning.
According to the Coast Guard, Lower Township police requested the dive team to the scene after a 76 year-old-male went missing while cutting fish on a floating dock.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May and a local emergency medical services member arrived on scene and located the man near the floating dock unresponsive with no vitals at 11:47 p.m.. Medic 9 was dispatched to the scene for a “water rescue” shortly after.
After arriving on scene Medic 9 reported the man had been pronounced dead.
State police have identified the deceased as Robert Schumann of Lower Township. Schumann ran a mobile fish cleaning operation at South Jersey Marina, police said.
An autopsy is being performed today and additional details are expected to be released later today.
The incident is under investigation by The New Jersey State Police Marine Division.
