Interchange in Neutral

PETERSBURG – Blanche Adams, representing the Upper Township Business Association, asked Upper Township Committee at its Nov. 19 meeting for an update on the possibility of a Parkway interchange at Exit 20.
“Business owners are really and still interested that a full interchange be created at Exit 20. We’ve been told to keep doing the same things such as making calls and sending letters. Any information you can give us?”
Mayor Richard Palombo replied, “We have heard from Sen. Van Drew’s office that this is not a dead issue but not a funding priority. The township’s residents still very much want the interchange and our committee along with surrounding municipalities has passed resolutions supporting the interchange.
“As far as I know, there hasn’t been any additional progress beyond a study that we discussed in Trenton a year ago. To summarize that study, the Department of Transportation did not find a new interchange financially reasonable and that there are significant environmental issues that are beyond its purview from the Department of Environmental Protection. We’re waiting to see who will replace Sen. Van Drew, and will continue to work together with that office to see if we can eventually get this interchange.”
