CREST HAVEN – Freeholders appointed Rio Grande resident Kerry Higgs to fill the unexpired term of James R. Washington II of West Cape May on the Cape May County Technical School District at the July 23 meeting. His term will expire Oct. 31, 2015. Washington had resigned the seat.
Higgs is a former Wildwood police officer and member of that city’s Board of Education. He told the Herald he wanted to help young people, since they are the future. He views the board as a way to assist students who may want to get a basic technical as well as educational foundation. He looks forward to working with the rest of the board to accomplish that goal. A house inspector, Higgs was raised in Middle Township and and graduated from that district’s schools.
At the May 21 board of education meeting, Washington was presented with a resolution honoring his service on the board from February 2003 until March of 2013. At that time, Boyd thanked Washington for serving as his mentor and for leadership and contributions as a board member.
District Superintendent Dr. Nancy Hudanich also thanked Washington on behalf of the administration and staff stating he was a pleasure to work with and a fine gentleman who will be sorely missed.
Washington wished the board well and continued success, and shared his fondness for the district and for serving the students
