CREST HAVEN – On the freeholders’ agenda for the Jan. 23 meeting, was a resolution to name Woodbine Mayor William Pikolycky to replace William Brown on the Pinelands Commission.
Brown, who resigned, had served on the commission since 1981 and was reappointed to a three-year term June 13, 2017, by freeholders. His term was to expire June 28, 2020.
Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton announced Brown’s resignation in October. At the time, he said there was no mandate when to replace Brown. Thornton indicated that resumes would be considered from any interested person.
Pikolycky said he would “have to resign from the Pinelands Municipal Council (of which I have been chair for many years).” However, he would remain in his mayoral post.
As part of his letter of intent to the board, Pikolycky wrote, “Besides my 27 years as mayor, I have served as chair of the Pinelands Municipal Council and have been involved with the Pinelands since its inception.
“This has given me the opportunity to not only represent my own Pinelands community but all the designated Pinelands communities.
“Part of my responsibility as chair is to meet with the executive director and staff of the Pinelands Commission on a quarterly basis to provide needed input from a municipal viewpoint.
“I would like to be considered for this position, thus representing not only Cape May County but the greater Pinelands community, as these issues particularly greatly impact Woodbine.”
