COURT HOUSE – At their Oct. 25 meeting, the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders awarded a $1,697,556 construction contract to Landberg Construction, L.L.C., Mays Landing, for resurfacing improvements to various county roads in Middle Township. Landberg Construction was the lower of two bids received for the project.
The section of roadways that are the subject of this contract are: Indian Trail Road (County Road No. 618) from U.S. Route 9 to Shunpike Road, Shunpike Road (County Road No. 620) from Indian Trail Road to approximately 2,900 feet north thereof (just north of the Transfer Station), Hand Avenue (County Road No. 658) from Dias Creek Road to South Boyd Street and Shell Bay Avenue (County Road No. 674) from U.S. Route 9 to Garden State Parkway.
The work program at each typically consists of milling the existing asphalt pavement and resurfacing with at least two (2) inches of hot mix asphalt. Additional catch basins and piping will be installed to reduce the amount of ponding on the roadways. Where sidewalks exist, they will be upgraded to conform to the current Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
The work at Hand Avenue involves the complete reconstruction of the pavement box and the installation of 17 new catch basins and related stormwater piping. As a result of this work, Hand Avenue will be closed to through traffic.
At the other roadways in the contract, the construction is planned to be performed while maintaining traffic. Each roadway will be open every night after construction working hours and on weekends, however motorists are cautioned that there will be times when there is no centerline striping. Temporary pavement markers will be placed to delineate the centerline. Motorists are advised to avoid the work areas, and if not, to use caution when traveling through the construction zones.
All work on Indian Trail Road and Shell Bay Avenue is to be completed by May 4, 2018. Work on the Shunpike Road and Hand Avenue is to be completed by June 8, 2018.
Variable message signs advising motorists of the pending work will be placed prior to and during the work operations.
Landberg Construction, LLC has successfully completed several roadway and drainage construction projects over the years for Cape May County. They are currently wrapping up work on the County’s 2017 Miscellaneous Drainage Improvement contract that involves repairs to drainage systems throughout the County.
