SEA ISLE CITY – At Sea Isle City Council’s Feb. 11 meeting, Solicitor Paul Baldini, joined by Cornelius “Neal” Burg, the city’s flood mitigation officer and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) expert, presented the latest data related to the municipality’s floodplain management plan.
“As the mayor noted in his State of the City remarks, flood mitigation is the highest priority for the administration,” said Baldini. “Because of the focus we have shown over the years, including issuing citations to non-complying property owners, and even taking some property owners to court over failure to comply, Sea Isle was the first in the state to achieve a class three designation, as awarded by FEMA. As a result, Sea Isle residents enjoy a 35% discount in their flood insurance premiums.”
Baldini singled out Burg for his “unrelenting” searching of discounts and information to benefit residents and property owners.
“Neal (Burg) has focused on not just the FEMA advisory of building to 100-year storm levels, but the 500-year levels,” said Baldini. “He has taken a proactive stance, since we don’t ever want Sea Isle to look like underwater St. Mark’s in Venice.”
