Faulty Pulley Thwarts Historic Courthouse Flag from Being Raised

Gov. Phil Murphy has ordered flags on state buildings and offices to fly their U.S. flags at half-staff Jan. 9 in honor of Sgt. 1st Class Michael Goble of New Jersey

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – The County of Cape May takes flag etiquette seriously. Those who wondered why Old Glory has not been flying at the top of the flagpole, it’s a faulty pulley.
According to a March 11 county release: The county wants to make the public  aware that it is having trouble with the pole that flies the American flag located at the historic courthouse in Cape May Court House.
There is a mechanical failure with the pulley located at the top of the pole which is not allowing for the raising or lowering of the flag.
The flagpole is 106 feet in height. Due to the overall height, the county has contracted with a local crane service to repair the pulley on a Saturday in order to avoid daily court proceedings.
Weather conditions will ultimately be the deciding factor on when repairs can be made.
