DENNISVILLE – At Dennis Township Committee’s meeting Jan. 22, the committee discussed plans to add space for recreational use to Chestnut Street Park.
The township has two applications pending with the New Jersey Pinelands Commission that would allow the township to enhance the space at the park. If approved by the Pinelands Commission, the township proposed to change the designation of 10 acres of land at the rear of the park from Pineland Forest to Pineland Village. This change would then allow those 10 acres to be used for recreational purposes.
Chestnut Street Park is in Belleplain and contains the home fields for the Dennis Township Blue Devils football teams, a baseball field, basketball courts, picnic pavilion, and two playgrounds. The township engineer indicated it would take at least six months to obtain all necessary approvals and agreements.
