DENNISVILLE – Dennis Township Committee, at its Jan. 24 meeting, approved a resolution to submit a grant application to the state Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for LED lighting installation at the Dennis Township Recreation Center.
The grant would cover 50% of the total $1.14 million project cost.
Currently, the recreation center has lights in the parking lot, at the hockey rink, at the outdoor basketball courts, and at two of the five baseball fields.
Administrator Jessica Bishop provided further details about the application, saying, “If awarded in full, installation should take a few months depending on the availability of materials. If awarded in part or no funds are awarded, the township will have to decide which of the five courts and fields proposed, if any, will get lighting.”
Bishop added, “In 2021, the township applied for DCA’s Local Recreational Improvement Grant to replace the fences around all five of our baseball fields. That same year, DCA awarded to the township $50,000, with $22,685 paid by Dennis, for a total project cost of $72,685, and the new fences were installed before the start of our 2022 baseball season.”
Mayor Zeth Matalucci summed up the application process by saying, “Receiving this grant a second time may be a long shot, but we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to improve the facility for our players, coaches, spectators, and residents.”
