WILDWOOD CREST – Borough Commissioners passed a series of ordinances Nov. 21, regarding safety at Sunset Lake Park.
As stated in the ordinance, commissioners have “determined that the high level of pedestrian traffic, resulting from the use of Sunset Lake Bayfront Park … has created conflicts with vehicular traffic on New Jersey Avenue and a danger to the public.”
Commissioners approved three ordinances to increase safety measures, including reducing the speed limit from 25 to 20 miles per hour, in both directions, along Sunset Lake, from Rambler Road to Miami Avenue. The speed on Bayview Drive, from Nashville to St. Paul avenues, will also be reduced.
Box trucks and other large vehicles, i.e., vehicles with an attached trailer, a house car, or camp car, may not park along Sunset Lake. According to officials, the measure will “preserve scenic resources by preserving the views and open space of park land …”
Prohibited parking areas include Rambler Road, extending to Atlanta Avenue, on the western side of New Jersey Avenue, and Miami Avenue, on the eastern side. Fines can’t exceed $500 (or less than $50) and/or drivers can’t be imprisoned for more than 90 days.
Motorists will also not able to turn right on red at Rambler Road and New Jersey Avenue. This will extend from May 1 to Oct. 1.
