WILDWOOD CREST ─ “The elephant in the room,” according to Wildwood Crest Administrator Constance Mahon, will be completed June 15.
The “elephant” takes the shape of the ongoing work on Pacific Avenue and other projects, including South Jersey Gas and emergency sewer repair.
During the June 7 commissioners’ meeting, Mahon explained the borough’s plan to complete various road work by June 15.
Two maps showed each street under review, allowing residents to see the “big picture” of what is being accomplished.
According to one resident, recent rainfall has affected the speed of the work, but assured the commissioners that the “contractors are working with us (borough).”
Mayor Carl Groon asked if both levels of asphalt will be poured by June 15 and a hopeful affirmative was given.
Business owners along Pacific Avenue have been notified and updated as the project has continued.
Mahon also commented on the milling on Sweetbriar Road and the steel pipe replacement; however, certain road projects will not be done until October, but work already done will be “patched with asphalt,” according to Mahon.
“A more positive sign” will be installed along the Crest’s beaches, welcoming visitors while still explaining the prohibitions.
“Softening the language” and creating a more welcoming atmosphere will be on each sign, according to Mahon. Wildwood Crest was recently named a “hot spot” by Trip Advisor, and the borough seeks to keep the commendation.
Mahon gave an update on the kayak launch at Sunset Lake: already in the design phase, necessary paperwork will be submitted to FEMA and other state agencies.
A June 9 meeting was held to discuss the project, and Mahon expected work to begin in spring 2018.
